The Language of Color series follows on from Living in a Painting, like a hyphen before the reflections in Poetry of the Earth.

Inspired by the idea that colour is a universal language, Maya Rochat is developing a series of works that explore the interconnectedness of life forms. Using a variety of media, organic motifs respond to each other, ranging from miniatures to large-scale installations. Over time, the size of the works has become increasingly imposing, as has the physicality of the images, which is enriched by technical innovations.
Paint comes into play at various stages of the creative process: as highlights in paint, but also as overprints in lithography, giving rise to hybrid works. These pieces combine the photographic printing process, the painting gesture and industrial techniques.
Maya Rochat continues her exploration of organic language, questioning how we feel about an image, its format and its material. She questions their ability to evoke an emotion in us, using in particular the energy of colours, the power of large formats, and the effect of changing the point of view depending on the angle of approach.

The work for Kunst Am Bau at ETH Zurich is part of this series. It also includes the exhibition of the same name in Olten with nomadic art space in 2020, Tableau Zürich in 2021, and the kunst am bau installation at the Gymnase in Bussigny in 2023. A performance was staged on the façade of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne for the Nuit des musées de Lausanne in 2021.
