The works in this series are brought together under the title Poetry of the Earth, inspired by John Keats's poem celebrating the music and harmony of nature. They correspond to a period of research and production that will also give its name to the monographic exhibition presented at the MEP in 2023 and to the monographic book published by art&fiction.

Maya Rochat creates visual and thematic links between a series of abstract paintings produced in the studio or during painting performances, mixed with the sub-series Protected Flowers of Switzerland, which is the positive of the series Action will follow vision at the first stage of its transformation.

The sub-series Snow Removal is made up of collages and photographs of snow and road salt. The organic forms that appear evoke the cracks of scorched desert earth and melting ice. In the midst of these natural motifs appear the cubes created artificially by the salt, which remain the only element left in the image at the end of the process.

This series reveals processes of appearance and disappearance, through a symbolic and material passage from white to black, from light to night.

The different images respond to each other organically, revealing their structural interconnectedness. While the archive slides tend towards a form of abstraction, the paintings tend towards the figurative, inviting us to take a fresh look at the world around us.

A greetings card and a video from Protected Flowers of Switzerland were commissioned by Alain Berset in 2020 when he was Federal Councillor.
