LIVING FLOWERS
,Davel 14 (Cully)
04.04.2025 - 12.04.2025
The images from Maya Rochat's ‘Living Flowers’ series exhibited at Davel 14 formed the starting point for the posters for the 2025 Cully Jazz Festival, created in collaboration with the Carnal/Verona studio. They were presented at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris during her solo exhibition ‘Poetry of the Earth’.
Maya Rochat developed this research based on a collection of slides. Originally, Jocelyne and Émile Valobonsi (a couple of amateur mycologists) documented native species classified as ‘Protected Flowers of Switzerland’. Mindful of the fragility of ecosystems, the artist decided to chemically transform these archival images, creating a parallel between the disappearance of the images and that of endangered species. Printed on tarpaulin, lithographed or cut out, new motifs appear, giant or intimate, in Maya Rochat's luminous colours.
