A new XXL art exhibition project in the heart of the city
The City of Lausanne is preparing to launch a new project dedicated to temporary art on a well-known facade in the city center, that of the Manor store, visible from many vantage points. This project inaugurates a series of temporary artistic interventions in public spaces. Lausanne artist Maya Rochat will be responsible for the first pilot project.
In response to Gaëlle Mieli's postulate “Faisons le mur” (Let's climb the wall), the City of Lausanne is initiating a cultural enhancement project for a facade located in the heart of the city, particularly visible from the esplanade of the Cathedral. Designed to host ephemeral art projects, this project is based on the presentation of works printed on tarpaulins, adapted to the technical constraints of the building.
A pilot project, entrusted to artist Maya Rochat, will be inaugurated in May, on the occasion of the next exhibition at the Lausanne Historical Museum dedicated to the City's Art Collection. Subsequently, the projects presented will be the subject of a competition. The first call for projects for the artistic occupation of this façade will be launched at the opening of this pilot project. The winning work is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2026.
The work of Maya Rochat
Through a large-format photograph printed on canvas, Maya Rochat offers an immersion into a visual ecosystem inspired by trees photographed on the outskirts of Lausanne's Luna Park. Artificial lights mingle with vegetation, revealing a vibrant space traversed by invisible forces. Designed to interact with the architecture and urban rhythm, the work invites us to slow down and take a fresh look at our connection to living things. Visible from the street, it speaks to everyone and offers an artistic experience in the heart of the city.
